Building Inspectors in Florida and an insider secret to finding that lost Fed Ex package

There are a lot of good building inspectors out there. However there is at least one electrical inspector in Florida is phoning it in. We will discuss how waiting lists for new homes can make it hard for homeowners to check brand new homes to see if it was build correctly when the builder wont allow a home inspector in the building before closing.

Eric G had some parts coming from his house that were built to order and somehow got lost in transit. In our investigation in what happened we found some secrets that helped us eventually locate the package even after Fed-Ex said it was lost and to contact the shipper. We share with you those secrets that might help you later if that happens to you.

[00:00:49] Eric Goranson: So thanks for joining us. Well today, I wanted to give you a couple updates. One, you know, we were talking about FedEx here about a week ago, about some of the issues or [00:01:00] happening out there and, uh, posted some stuff up on social media, stuff like that. And I realized how big of a problem with there is right now.

[:

[00:01:26] Eric Goranson: Cause I've had a lot of quote unquote lost pieces at this certain hub by my house, not by my house, it's within a half hour of it, but that's the main hub for the Portland, Oregon area. And I couldn't figure out what was going on. So I decided to be a little bit of the squeaky wheel on this and that there are national stories.

[:

[00:02:17] Eric Goranson: To empty those trailers in a quick amount of time, they were having a hard time to get those things figured out. So here is my advice for all you out there that are battling. Maybe you've got home improvement projects. I mean, this was a, a warranty piece for my shower, which they had been on God have taken care of, shipped it out.

[:

[00:03:02] Eric Goranson: Find out if there's a phone number for that hub. That's what I did. Once I figured out that the phone number there I started calling, I left three or four messages. There were some really great people there that were super helpful and they called me back. And quite frankly, they got it fixed quick. And I actually drove down there and picked it up and we'll call it kind of quietly from the parking lot.

[:

[00:03:40] Eric Goranson: And, uh, I knew that, uh, it was going to take a day or two to get on the delivery truck to get there. I asked if I could do it and they let me do it. So I went up there and picked it up, FedEx problem solved. So that's good to know. And, uh, you know, right now, until that happens, I've been actually requesting shippers to, uh, when I'm [00:04:00] ordering stuff to ship it another way, like ups or USP has to get it here.

[:

[00:04:29] Eric Goranson: But we talked about an internet problem that we had at, uh, my friend Cheryl's place out in. And she is out at a very famous solar powered community out there. And I'll just leave it at that because we're not going to name people and I'm like bashing them too hard. But what is going on in Florida guys? I mean, I have heard for a decade, people talk about building codes and then they always come up with the little asterisks on the statement that says, well, except in Florida, where sometimes they [00:05:00] just make that stuff.

[:

[00:05:27] Eric Goranson: Many of these builders, as soon as you do that thing. Oh yeah. Now we're not going to do that. We're not going to let you do that. And by the way, we're just going to give it to the next person of the hundred people that want in this community in line. So you can either take it as it is and deal with us, or we're going to sell it to the next person.

[:

[00:06:15] Eric Goranson: So that one was overloaded. They went outside and were looking at an outlet. Couldn't figure out why there was. Power to the outlet. So that could hook some stuff up outside that's required in their area, went to go hook it up, get squat. There's no wire going to the outlet, but the outlet was her. So they could say that they meet it.

[:

[00:07:04] Eric Goranson: That is a hot mass, Hey, head over to around the house, online.com or actually just hit over to our Facebook, um, because Facebook's been down, but head over to the. Actually head over to our close group around the house nation. And if you've got a crazy Florida story, cause we've got lots of listeners in Florida, or you've got a crazy inspection story, let's share those up on around the house nation over there.

[:

[00:07:48] Eric Goranson: Uh, I want to see what the, some of these guys have been doing. Cause there's some good ones out there, but it seems like there's some, something funky going down in a few areas out there. So I always want to see what's going on in your area. [00:08:00] I can't see it all from here in Portland, Oregon, where I'm located.

[:

[00:08:22] Eric Goranson: One of them is no politics. Everybody plays nice. So, uh, we are not allowing that to be anything other than a very safe community for people to talk about projects. And we get enough about politics and all the other junk all day long that we just wanted to create a space that people could come over there.

[:

[00:08:59] Eric Goranson: So we're [00:09:00] bringing on Saturday's show coming up. We've got, uh, Z line appliances, which is going to be great. I'm looking forward to the. And then really on Saturday, we've had so many different issues with contractors out there and, uh, trying to help people out that had bad ones. We're going to go back and revisit that.

[:

[00:09:38] Eric Goranson: I want to see that you are doing all the right stuff to keep yourself protected, because I don't want to see any. I ended up like you were on a skip a Dell's catch a contractor. So, because we want to make sure that you get lined up with a really good contract. And not the bad ones because, uh, those guys, we want to see out of business, the good ones, [00:10:00] that's who we want to see helping out out there.

[:

[00:10:18] Eric Goranson: Uh, couple things here, one, uh, we're going to be, do what we have changed over the pro insider podcast to be at every two weeks over there, just to schedules. We've kind of changed it to an every other week thing. So I can do some bigger and larger content on that, but really. Right now on the radio side of things.

[:

[00:10:54] Eric Goranson: For instance, here in Portland, we haven't been on and probably three plus weeks. Uh, but everybody's [00:11:00] found us over here on the podcast. So if you miss us, don't worry. Sports are kind of doing some crazy things with the schedule. And we ended up getting preempted a lot for that, but, uh, this is preemption season and that does happen here when you're on a sports.

[:

[00:11:37] Eric Goranson: Because that actually does help us get the word out. The more subscribers and followers we have on the podcast, it helps the metrics and helps us grow. And we appreciate that. And that way we can get out there and help more people. And we also love all the kind reviews we've been getting from all of you.
