: It's around the house when it comes to remodeling and renovating your home. There is a lot to know though. We've got you covered. This is around the house. Welcome to The Round the House Show. This is where we help you get the most outta your home through information and education. Happy, midweek. Special everybody.

[:

[00:00:51] Eric Goranson: First off, this is something for you people and the Midwest North, where you've got a lot of snow and even maybe [00:01:00] California, which I don't usually put those all together in the same sentence with snow. that Nevada. Be careful up there. Sierra Nevadas, South Dakota fire officials are informing residents to check their gas meters to ensure snow isn't covering them.

[:

[00:01:39] Eric Goranson: Large amounts of snow can put heavy weight and pressure on the pipes, which ultimately causes them to break and fall. In both home explosions, there was 10 plus feeder snow on the gas meter. So that tells you if you got two inches of snow, don't worry about it. But if it's buried out there, yeah, be careful of that.[00:02:00]

[:

[00:02:21] Eric Goranson: Make sure that's all clear. Keep that snow way away from it. And, uh, there's no reasonable amount of snow that they say should be on your gas meter. So just clean it off as best you can. You'll be fine. , but, uh, wow, who would've thought that, uh, a gas meter could have caused that? So just make sure that you've got all those vents and stuff on the side of the house opened up.

[:

[00:03:07] Eric Goranson: Uh, the magnet could come off and get into kids. If they eat, it could kill 'em. And then Dr. Power Equipment is recalling their Pro XL 5 0 1 stripper shredder, uh, laceration problems there. And then I think the last one I saw was, what was that one? That one was kind of a big one too. So that was, um, an air fryer, which was 2 million Corsi air fryers we recalled by, uh, so it's Cor Kari, sorry, 2 million Kari, c o s o r i.

[:

[00:04:02] Eric Goranson: I wanted to talk about after our little explosive discussion. I wanted to talk about primers and paint because I tell you what, this week has been a social media question on primers, and I kind of wanted to go through that and discuss that a little bit because primer is not all that it's caked up to be seriously, guys.

[:

[00:04:49] Eric Goranson: So let's talk about that. So when you look at the primaries, there's lots of different types of primers out there. So let's say you want to seal a porous [00:05:00] surface. That's really where when you, let's say it's um, something that can soak up a lot of paint, which quite frankly costs you a lot of paint and a lot of time.

[:

[00:05:36] Eric Goranson: That's where that's really good for. Now, if you wanna do something where you've got poor adhesion, like maybe you've got flaking pain on the wall, or somebody didn't wash or prime the job correctly before and you got things coming off, this is where you wanna look for an adhesion primer that really grips the surface so that just sprinkler paint could stick to it.

[:

[00:06:24] Eric Goranson: So it's a water-based modified acrylic primer, specifically formulated a bond. A lot of those tough, you know, surfaces like pvc, vinyl, kinnar from Micah, glass tile, glazed brick, chalky paints, glossy finishes, fiberglass and metals. And so that's a really good one. And here's what's cool is you could actually use epoxy lacquer products containing Zion and other hot solvents.

[:

[00:07:27] Eric Goranson: And the problem is, is when you go from a a dark color to a white man, those colors can bleed through. Especially when you see reds and some of those others. It really goes through there. So you want something that's got some hiding power, and so that's where you want to go into something for those drastic color changes.

[:

[00:08:11] Eric Goranson: So when you're doing color changes, that's a big one. Now, if you've got stains that you're trying to do, you know, You know, it could be just something primers, you know, can be kind of tricky with this. But really if you've got like scuff marks, hand prints, pencil, ink, pen, basic light stuff, that's where you really just want to use one of the heavy duty hide hiding stain blockers.

[:

[00:09:08] Eric Goranson: Cedar Redwood that has got tannins that lived to bleed through it. You know, any of that stuff right there. This is kind of where you either want to go back to the kill's original interior primer that works well. That's really what that's made for, and you can go in and hit that and that's the blocking, heavy duty stain and odor.

[:

[00:09:52] Eric Goranson: That's gonna help seal that off, and that's gonna keep even pet smokes odors. That's really what this stuff's meant for. Again, that's using the [00:10:00] right primer for that. Now here's the other thing. If you're in a bathroom, a kitchen, or in a basement, that you've got that mildew stuff down there and it's nasty and you want to do that, kills does make a mold in mildew primer, and that's an interior exterior.

[:

[00:10:46] Eric Goranson: You should be looking at that actually can kill mold and mildew and stuff like that. It'll keep it from growing on it from up to five years because of the paint makeup, it is so caustic that it literally can't grow on it. [00:11:00] So instead of using like mild decides and chemicals, this is using just basic pH to stop that from happen.

[:

[00:11:24] Eric Goranson: Um, you know, if you're thinking about primers, uh, primer is really important other than just doing a regular. You know, refresh, repaint, sometimes that primer is really gonna help you, especially with drastic colors. And then like, always prep is the main thing. You know, primer's not gonna fix a bad prep job.

[:

[00:12:00] Eric Goranson: So spend the time and do that paint right, and that's gonna make things so much easier. We got a great show coming up this weekend. We have our spring home maintenance checklist and so much more this weekend that you don't wanna miss on around the house. I gotta go get going. I've gotta shoot to go out to here.

[:
