Join us as we chat with Ken Aaron from Virtual Home Inventory, who will share valuable insights into maintaining an accurate record of your possessions. Don’t miss out on essential tips that could make all the difference when it comes to protecting your home and assets.

This week’s episode of Around the House takes a proactive approach to home protection, addressing the critical importance of understanding insurance coverage amidst the backdrop of recent natural disasters. As wildfires, hurricanes, and flooding continue to impact various regions across the U.S., homeowners are left grappling with the aftermath and the subsequent insurance claims process. The hosts engage in a candid discussion about common missteps homeowners make, particularly when it comes to missing premium payments and the often convoluted relationship with mortgage companies. A caller shares their frustration about the lack of support from their mortgage provider, emphasizing the need for homeowners to be vigilant and well-informed about their insurance policies.

The conversation delves into the significance of maintaining a thorough inventory of personal belongings, featuring expert Ken Aaron from Virtual Home Inventory. Aaron articulates a critical point: without a proper inventory, homeowners cannot accurately assess their insurance needs. He points out that many individuals are either overinsured, leading to wasted premium payments, or underinsured, which can leave them financially vulnerable during claims. This segment of the show offers valuable insights on how to catalog possessions effectively, ensuring that homeowners are adequately prepared for any eventuality. The discussion emphasizes that having a detailed inventory is not just about being organized; it's a crucial component of financial safety and peace of mind.

Well, this week I wanted to give out some great information to all of our homeowners and renters in the United States.

Co-host:

We've had wildfires, we've had hurricanes, we've had floods, all the stuff happening in the Carolinas, East Tennessee in the south, and we have tons of damage for many homeowners across the US and this.

Caller:

Is a big mistake homeowners make is someone misses a premium payment, you miss it, they miss it.

Caller:

Whoever.

Caller:

You get some letter, hey, you know, bear in mind you're supposed to have insurance.

Caller:

If you don't get insurance, we'll buy insurance for you.

Caller:

And you think, oh, cool, awesome.

Caller:

I mean, I don't want to deal with this.

Caller:

My mortgage, my mortgage company doesn't do crap for me.

Caller:

It's about time they step up to the plate and do something right.

Caller:

Yeah, they're buying insurance for them, not for you.

Caller:

In most states, you can't even recover.

Caller:

They will keep the money and you.

Caller:

And if they underpay, you have no right to go after getting more.

Co-host:

Homeowners and renters have had to navigate so much.

Co-host:

And in this hour of around the House, we're going to be talking with Ken Aaron from Virtual Home Inventory.

Expert:

If you don't know what you have, you can't buy the proper amount of insurance.

Expert:

There's a classic example.

Expert:

So the inventory serves that purpose.

Expert:

You can buy the right amount of insurance.

Expert:

Talked to a public adjuster just the other day who had told me that his experience is most people are either way overinsured or way underinsured.

Expert:

So you're either paying extra money that you shouldn't and you're losing that, or if you have a loss and you make the claim, you're not going to get everything because you're way underinsured from where you should be.

Co-host:

All that and more on Saturday's around the House show with Eric G.
