[00:00:16] Caroline Blazovsky: Yeah, birthdays. They're good. They just keep going. They kind of keep rolling. I'll let it roll for like two weeks. So anybody wants to send gifts, presents drinks, cake.

[:

[00:00:41] Caroline Blazovsky: Oh my God.

[:

[00:00:44] Caroline Blazovsky: Oh, my God. And you can't like they don't like you pan down, so you can only see like two and then it says Seymour and then have to keep putting see more and see more and see more. And then finally, all of a sudden you mess up and you end up at the top again. So then you're like, I have to go all the way back through.

[:

[00:01:05] Eric Goranson: Yeah. When you get hundreds and hundreds, it's it's it's I spent last year, my birthday, probably an hour and a half, just trying to respond back to people on social media.

[:

[00:01:27] Eric Goranson: Yeah, but you've got to.

[:

[00:01:49] Eric Goranson: We're getting into fall when, uh, when the camera goes from the, uh, the, uh, summer adventure park and then they call it like the skee-ball camera, you know, that. [00:02:00] You know that we've turned the corner of summer into fall.

[:

[00:02:09] Eric Goranson: Yeah. It's just upon, uh, kind of close to Mount hood. So it's up by Mount hood. So it's a Timberline lodge. It's one of our big ski areas here. It's probably an hour from my house.

[:

[00:02:28] Eric Goranson: Well, there's a lot of years that you could actually get up on there and ski year round, because you can go up and glacier ski up there. So that's kind of the cool part. It's a big freaking mountain. So it's, uh, you know, Timberline lodge, not so much, but you can get up there and, uh, you know, the, and that lodge by the way is where they filmed. Uh, One of my favorite movies and we'll just leave it this way. Red rum,

[:

[00:02:54] Eric Goranson: red drum,

[:

[00:02:59] Eric Goranson: we're getting [00:03:00] into horror season.

[:

[00:03:02] Eric Goranson: uh, Oh, yeah, a little Stephen King in the shining, always good stuff. Always good stuff. So that's what they use the exterior shots for that. Of course the inside was just a set, but

[:

[00:03:13] Eric Goranson: the exterior shot.

[:

[00:03:24] Eric Goranson: cool. I got to go over and check that out here. Got to go check that out. That's cool. That's cool. Well, I wanted to talk today because, well, quite frankly, I've got them coming over here in a little bit. After we get done recording, I've got a, my local guys pyramid heating and cooling coming over and doing my fall service on my heating and cooling system.

[:

[00:03:44] Eric Goranson: When was the last time you had your service done? and yes, my system's brand new and

[:

[00:03:52] Eric Goranson: it's still needs to have service. So I mean, that's the thing, and it's so hard for people out there [00:04:00] that, oh, it's working fine, but this is when it.

[:

[00:04:06] Caroline Blazovsky: Halloween music.

[:

[00:04:12] Eric Goranson: This is a lesson I learned years ago, the years that I don't have my heating and cooling system taking a peak at, or the years that it leaves me. Hang on. I had this happen what four years ago. It was the night before Thanksgiving had 20 something. People at the house and the, and the board on the inside of the unit just dies

[:

[00:04:35] Eric Goranson: fried up.

[:

[00:04:47] Caroline Blazovsky: Oopsie.

[:

[00:04:55] Eric Goranson: And I wanted heat. So that was my fault. [00:05:00] A hundred percent my fault. If I would've had somebody come out and service that thing and take a peak at it. They would've caught the problem. Cause there w it was showing signs, but nobody had been in it for over a year

[:

[00:05:33] Caroline Blazovsky: So for example, if you're in a zone, um, four seasons. Maybe run air conditioning only what, like, you know, a couple of months of the year, and then maybe something a little bit extra, you get serviced. Your air conditioning gets serviced once a year. If you go more than that, then it's two, even three times.

[:

[00:06:03] Caroline Blazovsky: And people don't think that they think like, oh, I don't want to spend money to have it service. But with when you're running air conditioning a lot, you've got to service it at least once a year. Now with heat, I'll give you a little bit, you typically want to do whatever year, but if you've got a gas heat system, I'm okay with you going every other year, as long as you're changing your filters running.

[:

[00:06:47] Eric Goranson: Cause you know, you're going to kick the AC on when you're setting it up. But because it's new, it's good to get them to come out and just kind of hook up to it. Fine tune it, make sure the flames dialed in because it's going to act a little bit differently at 52 degrees [00:07:00] and it did at 92.

[:

[00:07:18] Caroline Blazovsky: So a lot of people have UV lights on. It's not an indefinite thing. You've got to actually have those. So usually there's an indicator light on your eight-track. That'll tell you whether or not your UVS out. So take a look at that. Um, and see, you know, if you need a UV light bulb, if some don't have indicators.

[:

[00:07:40] Eric Goranson: Yeah, mine gives me a status cause I've got a new system. So it gives me a status on the app of where that light is, which is

[:

[00:07:53] Eric Goranson: Um, it just gives me it texts me warnings. It

[:

[00:07:56] Eric Goranson: me. goes, Hey now [00:08:00] I, now I cheated on my system. So in case Julie changes the temperature in the house, it emails me that somebody went override on the system.

[:

[00:08:12] Eric Goranson: did you touch the thermostat?

[:

[00:08:17] Eric Goranson: Yeah, I didn't touch it real. I just got an email

[:

[00:08:38] Caroline Blazovsky: Once you get one thing for smart home.

[:

[00:08:58] Caroline Blazovsky: And we also have house of [00:09:00] projects. So when you tune in and listen to how some projects, you can play our wheel and, uh, do a little wheel of fortune.

[:

[00:09:30] Caroline Blazovsky: yeah, you have to listen to Eric. Eric is going to give his top five tools at every homeowner. So it's a great list. So tune in this

[:

[00:10:00] Eric Goranson: Well, I wanted to talk a little bit today here, just about the shipping problems that we're getting out there. I mean, we had a big story that hit the news here, uh, about our FedEx location and quite frankly, and I'm going to bash on FedEx for a second. Our local hub here is horrible over the last year as I've been remodeling.

[:

[00:11:04] Eric Goranson: Now, as my baggage is inside of it.

[:

[00:11:12] Eric Goranson: Uh, I mean, I've had, I've had a constant battle with them. I mean, I'll be honest. I've had to patch my lawn twice this last year of them driving through my front lawn.

[:

[00:11:24] Eric Goranson: Yeah.

[:

[00:11:26] Eric Goranson: So w one guy almost got stuck and he's out there in my front lawn and the grass going, we and his muds flying. And I'm just like, oh Lord, really? And then I called FedEx up and they're like, oh, sorry. I'm they're like, well, we're sorry, sir. Have a good.

[:

[00:11:52] Caroline Blazovsky: It's like awesome.

[:

[00:12:21] Eric Goranson: Even if It's shipping from halfway across the country, um, it could take two or three extra weeks to get something. Even if you're shipping it through a, a common shipping method, like

[:

[00:12:50] Caroline Blazovsky: I've just gotten in the habit of doing that. And then I have it all sitting there ready to go, which I think works, you know, especially

[:

[00:13:23] Caroline Blazovsky: You're

[:

[00:13:33] Caroline Blazovsky: Why would you do that?

[:

[00:13:56] Caroline Blazovsky: Oh, my God.

[:

[00:14:00] Caroline Blazovsky: Oh, talk about how some of the companies too are not doing their entire line, so they're not carrying their entire line of product. You may only be able to get.

[:

[00:14:09] Eric Goranson: there's a lot of companies out there right now that, because, you know, There's a record amount of ships that are sitting out in the Pacific ocean that are coming from Asia over there that have products in them. I mean, if you go on the shipping maps and you could do that, you can Google that up and take a look and you'll see that there's hundreds of ships filled with thousands of containers sitting out there.

[:

[00:14:51] Eric Goranson: There's not enough ships and there's not enough ports to even unload those ships. Um, I've seen companies that are actually sitting [00:15:00] there that would normally get that container dropped off in like LA or long beach. They're having it shipped around into the Gulf of Mexico, into Louisiana or any one of those other ports down there.

[:

[00:15:35] Eric Goranson: Skews, and we're going to produce those and get those to the marketplace. And so you might jump online and go, oh, that's my perfect faucet or piece of cabinet hardware or whatever you're trying to do. It might not be available for six to nine months because they've put a hold on manufacturing.

[:

[00:16:03] Eric Goranson: Ah, It's crazy. It's absolutely crazy. You know, the, the, the hoops, you've got to jump through to get stuff right now, and this is not going to stop here this fall. This, this is going to go well into 2022 all the way through at least summertime with construction building materials. There is no end in sight right now for this.

[:

[00:16:27] Caroline Blazovsky: The lumber prices are better. Right. So that's a

[:

[00:16:46] Eric Goranson: So lumber is your friend, but she rocks not tell you What I went to go look for some sheet rock for my garage. Uh, cause I'm going to do some sheet rock work in here and I'm like, whew. That has not gone down yet. So hopefully they'll get the[00:17:00]

[:

[00:17:03] Eric Goranson: Um, I think I looked here, it was like 14 bucks a sheet,

[:

[00:17:07] Eric Goranson: which it should be about, you know, a third to half of that,

[:

[00:17:14] Eric Goranson: so it's double the price and I really liked to pay.

[:

[00:17:18] Caroline Blazovsky: Hm.

[:

[00:17:38] Eric Goranson: And if you've got a friend that, uh, or family member that's trying to start their own DIY journey or trying to create a healthier. Send this over to him. Share it.
