[00:00:19] Eric Goranson: About appliances and plumbing and all this great stuff, but we've got Galen Bradford back in the studio today. Welcome back to around the house. My friend,

[:

[00:00:30] Eric Goranson: thanks for coming on, man. And, uh, you know, last time we were talking appliances and now I've got my house filled with your stuff.

[:

[00:00:53] Eric Goranson: Ah, you know, and it's been a good one. It's been a good one. And cause I've got to kind of test your entire organization a [00:01:00] little bit from getting stuff shipped out here to, you know, I did the install myself on everything. So it's one of those things that I know. very intimately, including, you know, doing some troubleshooting where we had just a, a couple little minor issues.

[:

[00:01:30] Galen Bradford: Okay.

[:

[00:01:43] Galen Bradford: Great. And it's the 24 inch dishwasher you've got there.

[:

[00:01:48] Galen Bradford: Do you have a, do you have a favorite, an early front runner?

[:

[00:01:57] Galen Bradford: Yeah, that's,

[:

[00:01:59] Galen Bradford: [00:02:00] it's, it's a very sleek product and it's one of those things I think. I think everybody's so used to the stock OTR microwave. That pretty much has it every track home in America by default. But once you upgrade, you don't realize how much more you can get from a microwave.

[:

[00:02:32] Galen Bradford: It is we, we put a lot of time into engineering that, and really refining it. And it's kind of, you know, something special about our company, that our lead product designers, also our president and it's something where he is incredibly hands on. Every step of developing a new product. And That's one that really, I think helps us kind of transition from a company that really started with range hoods, and then started to explore this week to say we can, we can look at filling the niche in every part of a kitchen with a superior appliances.[00:03:00]

[:

[00:03:22] Galen Bradford: It does, it does a great job with the cook through it. It's one of the advantages. I think a lot of people might not consider. Initially when you look at a microwave that doesn't have a turntable and, and how, you know, you can actually put some things that you might not consider microwave an upright cup of coffee.

[:

[00:03:46] Eric Goranson: Exactly now let's let's. I want to dispel this myth right now because it was something that happened like 30 years ago with microwaves these days, if you buy a halfway decent microwave. The only reason [00:04:00] they put the turntable in there is because they know you think you need one when you doubt.

[:

[00:04:29] Eric Goranson: Oh, this is not your 1982 radar range. You know what I mean?

[:

[00:04:40] Eric Goranson: Exactly, exactly. And I'll be honest switching over to that range. Ah, that thing is gorgeous.

[:

[00:04:48] Eric Goranson: it, uh, it's cool, but here's, here's one of the things I like about the Rangers, two things that are kind of the main points. People to kind of grab a hold of with this one, it's really [00:05:00] affordable luxury.

[:

[00:05:12] Galen Bradford: Yeah. I mean, our philosophy at sea line is attainable luxury. Our goal is to really say, and it really starts at the manufacturing process and the design of the product, the little details. I think things people may not consider, you know, the average consumer things like a hold versus a. How does that affect the finish?

[:

[00:05:52] Galen Bradford: And I don't think it will be a shock for anyone who's shopped for a. Higher end range in the last couple of years, too. There's some [00:06:00] sticker shock, you know, and. If you're kind of trying to meet that thing of this thing needs to work well, it's the, it's the center of the kitchen. It's going to feed my family.

[:

[00:06:25] Galen Bradford: Because there's all grades of black stainless on the market and

[:

[00:06:29] Galen Bradford: Yeah. And, um, anybody who's had experience with it has seen some horror stories with it too.

[:

[00:06:38] Galen Bradford: Yes, exactly. You know, it's something we work really hard on. There are products we've wanted to launch and we're just like, these are not matching enough. We need to go back and really. On making sure that this black stainless.

[:

[00:07:02] Galen Bradford: A lot of times you're going to see stainless right under it. It's a cheap overcoat. And if you don't have that quality PVD and, and we worked really hard to even give it that kind of glassy sheen. So it doesn't just look like stainless with a surface on top. It's got that really beautiful. Almost like a candy coat.

[:

[00:07:23] Eric Goranson: It is. And that, you know, as a designer in my kitchen, so I'll paint the picture for people. And a lot of our listeners have seen on social media, some pictures of my kitchen, but so I've got, there is nothing that hides this black stainless. I have white cabinetry with a gray, concrete looking slab, porcelain.

[:

[00:08:06] Eric Goranson: And you guys have done a great job.

[:

[00:08:09] Galen Bradford: it's something we really try to think about from the consumer side too, when you're, you know, for a lot of people, if you're doing one appliance at a time, it's the beginning or, or if a step in a project and otherwise you're going to do a re. And you want everything to match and look good.

[:

[00:08:44] Galen Bradford: And still have that finishing touch because really it's, the appliances are catch a lot of eyes. You can have amazing granite, but the range is still going to turn heads. You know, the hood is going to turn heads and it's worth it to have something that really completes the look and has that luxury feel. [00:09:00]

[:

[00:09:21] Galen Bradford: Yeah. Yeah. You know, some of that small stuff, it's a lot like, uh, I think hardware fixtures, it's some of those little things at the end that if you really want to spend some money, there's some great options out there for

[:

[00:09:58] Eric Goranson: You know, that, that range, here's the [00:10:00] funny thing with that range too, is one of the most, my favorite things to cook on it. Is that griddle?

[:

[00:10:06] Galen Bradford: You know, we're, we're seeing some more of that, but that, that griddle top just opens up so many cooking options and you, you know, Work with it like a grill or you can work with it just like a traditional flattop and be cooking pancakes and, and fish and everything. Put an awesome sear on like an Auggie steak.

[:

[00:10:39] Eric Goranson: You know, I work from home and I, if I need to go in and pop on a, a ham and cheese sandwich or something that flat top is like gold for that,

[:

[00:10:54] Galen Bradford: I didn't talk to people who are like, Hey, I want to start a catering business. Can I get extra griddle tops? [00:11:00] And basically turned my 48 into just basically a full kitchen flat talk in here. And I'm going to cook for 60 on this thing.

[:

[00:11:21] Galen Bradford: Just get the,

[:

[00:11:23] Galen Bradford: you know, get it, get an outdoor set up, going, put a 24 out there and be like this one's mine.

[:

[00:11:43] Galen Bradford: Exactly. You're like this one's mine. I got full control.

[:

[00:12:06] Eric Goranson: For, you know, getting the barbecue going and I'll throw a couple steaks on in there. And if you have the right hood and it's set up correctly, you can get all that smoky air out from the, from that. And it works really well. And that's the nice thing about those hoods is they crank a lot of CFM out.

[:

[00:12:28] Eric Goranson: I have the big one.

[:

[00:12:44] Eric Goranson: Exactly.

[:

[00:12:59] Galen Bradford: We want it [00:13:00] to be something that is in your kitchen. And you're like, this'll be for my family for as long as this is our home. And we can at any time, if there's any. Make sure that you've got a wonderful working hood motor and it's not, uh, it's not too complex to install either, which is nice. Your wall Mount range.

[:

[00:13:41] Galen Bradford: Yeah. There's so many different things out there and it's something we, again, worked really hard on. I feel like we continually try to iterate the better led lighting, the warmth, the brightness, and, uh, you know, the big thing we looked at too is. Adjustability that if, you know, on a lot of our hoods, we want to say, [00:14:00] Hey, you know, sometimes you need to see something very specific when you're cooking and it helps to be able to position the light on different parts of the range.

[:

[00:14:14] Eric Goranson: No it is. And I've got a well-designed, um, I'm not going to toot my own horn here, but I've got a well-designed lighting system in there. Cause you know, I've been a designer for 30 years, so I laid it out. But when you've got that large hood overhead, no matter what you do up there, You're really got to have good lighting in there because that hood is covering all the cooking surface.

[:

[00:14:35] Galen Bradford: Yeah, absolutely.

[:

[00:14:57] Eric Goranson: So when you turn the main oven on the led light wouldn't show [00:15:00] that it was heating oven worked fine, but just the led failed, which is ironic. Cause led lights never fail.

[:

[00:15:09] Eric Goranson: was just something that just, you know, luck of the draw and an led light manufacturer problem on the led light. Simple, easy, but here's what was cool is you guys got it lined up with the service tech service tech comes out and he had never worked on.

[:

[00:15:27] Galen Bradford: Um,

[:

[00:15:45] Eric Goranson: Cause I'm kind of trying to get his opinion on it. And he goes, I wish all luxury ranges could be repaired. This.

[:

[00:15:57] Eric Goranson: yeah, he just couldn't yeah, he goes, oh yeah. Some of these things, [00:16:00] unfortunately I have to drag out. I have to completely disassemble and almost reassemble the entire range back in here. And he goes, this just took five minutes.

[:

[00:16:39] Galen Bradford: And they are experienced, you know, uh, some of the guys we bring in are people who have had years servicing appliances, and we just kind of talk to them about what they've seen. The likelihood of a crimped or pinched wire when you're even reassembling after the swap can be so common. So it's something where we look at it and say, how do we get quality components in a streamlined design?

[:

[00:17:11] Eric Goranson: It is. And I've had ranges apart of all different brands, you know, um, maybe I was doing some work on it for a friend or a family member or whatever else. And some of them look like. A hot mass, like out of a action movie in the, and the guy trying to be the bomb tech during to take apart the nuclear device, you know, before it explodes.

[:

[00:17:48] Galen Bradford: Yeah, no fluff and no kind of gimmicky shortcuts where it's like, oh, Hey, we could put a, we could put a cheap cut in here and cut a corner. You know, it's like, how do we do this with solid quality pieces [00:18:00] and really produce a product that's. I mean, we, we have a lot of pride in our product and again, it goes back to just detail at every point in designing what we're going to bring to market.

[:

[00:18:32] Galen Bradford: Who's like, I have a positive experience. I'm excited about my appliances. That word of mouth is the best marketing any company can have. And so for us too, it's a big thing we've been pushing to. Our selves accessible, have a human being able to answer the phone. When you call, we set up a service appointment because at this point we've all had a run around from a company and it.

[:

[00:18:59] Galen Bradford: Exchanging [00:19:00] emails for a month and you still don't have an appointment. And you're just kind of considering if you give up, you know, it can sour people very quickly. So we put a lot of time in both, you know, providing the resources for our customer service and our service partners, but also just knowing that it, our most important resource is someone who loves Zoi and that there's no limit to what we're going to invest in trying to create that experience.

[:

[00:19:35] Galen Bradford: Thank you. Yeah, we're really excited about that. You know, we've already Heights the black stainless and how much we both love it. And we started to look at well, you know, and, and, and we've, there's some people dipping their toes in this trend, but you know, we're starting to see. Dramatic color is coming back in the kitchen.

[:

[00:20:07] Eric Goranson: yeah. Chip and Joanna Gaines stuff was everywhere.

[:

[00:20:27] Galen Bradford: All the other colors and textures and materials in the kitchen really make a statement. You know, it's not so much of one uniform feel. It's a lot of different combinations of like natural textures and colors. We're seeing a lot of that light hardwood come back in the kitchen. And that's one thing we really try to keep in mind too, is how do we make a product that's going to look good in the kitchen.

[:

[00:21:06] Galen Bradford: So the, uh, the autograph is really exciting as, as you can see, if you, uh, take a look at our presence online, um, all kinds of different looks, we've got that instinct. Uh, dura snow, our proprietary finish and black stainless. And then, uh, uh, we've got a gold and a champagne bronze as well as a matte black on all different kinds of color combinations, as well as some that come with the white matte door.

[:

[00:21:44] Galen Bradford: lighting, fixtures, or plumbing that you want to add to your kitchen.

[:

[00:21:48] Eric Goranson: Yeah, that's that's the other part of my kitchen that I've got is I've got the white flight. But I've got the brash brass gold oversized hardware there. And then I've got the matte black, [00:22:00] uh, and brushed gold faucet. And then of course, I've got the Z line apron front sink below it in block.

[:

[00:22:31] Galen Bradford: You kind of just, you know, from there on out, it was a done deal.

[:

[00:22:50] Eric Goranson: Textures matching that way. But before I get into sinks, I wanted to just kind of circle around you guys do wall ovens and cooktops and things like, you know, the range tops [00:23:00] as well. I didn't of course use those in my kitchen, but you guys do those as well, which is super.

[:

[00:23:25] Galen Bradford: What's a complete suite to one person is missing three CUNY appliances to another. And so a complete suite really, you know, you'd sit down and say, Oh, there's probably about four appliances in the kitchen. Those might be a completely different set of four than your neighbors. A complete suite is really an array of products and.

[:

[00:24:02] Galen Bradford: So the, you know, uh, solid stainless steel, ball-bearings smooth glide racks, the stay-put hinges, um, built in thermometer. Too. So you can really get the read on your cook when you're doing that great roast or the Turkey for the holidays and have some confidence. And, uh, we've also got our first line of induction, um, gas range coming up where we've got an induction top on a freestanding range.

[:

[00:24:54] Galen Bradford: Now. I mean, it seems like almost every state has a hazard of ventilation and. You know, [00:25:00] energy usage, recommendation, and also induction is a great efficient way to cook. And

[:

[00:25:06] Galen Bradford: we, You know, now that we've, we're feeling really confident about her range and the range line is up and running and doing fantastic.

[:

[00:25:16] Eric Goranson: on a west coast, like we are you're down and, you know, you guys are based at, you know, designing stuff down on lake Tahoe, which is, you know, totally gorgeous area. But you know, in up in Oregon where I'm at Washington, they're talking about some new developments, um, not letting them put natural gas into those developments so they can be all electric.

[:

[00:25:49] Galen Bradford: Yeah, and you shouldn't have to sacrifice the look or the kitchen that you want just because of an energy requirement and really, you know, settled because then you're going to wake up five years from now and resent that [00:26:00] person, that product you didn't want. And, and, you know, we've seen it too. I think America's been a little slower on the uptake for induction, you know, overseas and internationally. It's a much bigger kind of, uh, piece of the market, but, uh, we've seen.

[:

[00:26:30] Galen Bradford: Yeah.

[:

[00:26:49] Eric Goranson: They loved it. And they just continued a few years later because I think they sold a handful of them. So this. New technology, even though it might seem new technology, but, uh, [00:27:00] it's definitely not.

[:

[00:27:19] Galen Bradford: And I know. Even just to the north Canada has actually embraced the induction a lot earlier than we did, but it's starting to come in the kitchen more. And I think we're seeing a generation, um, you know, new, new home buyers who are a lot more energy and environment conscious too, and, and are saying, yeah, I'm ready for some technology.

[:

[00:28:00] Galen Bradford: And so that's where pairing it on a stainless steel full freestanding range. You're kind of really bringing. The, you know, your best memories into the new frontier with this product. So we're really excited to launch those and all, uh, one more, you know, it's something we've been asked a ton about. So I'll, I'll, I'll let you know here is kind of some excitement for your audience.

[:

[00:28:23] Eric Goranson: Nice.

[:

[00:28:38] Eric Goranson: Nice. So you're going to get closer to the suite because then everybody else is going to go, okay, you got the refrigerator, where's my coffee makers, steam oven. And I can name off probably four other appliances, like my Suvi and, uh, you know, I'm gone.

[:

[00:29:11] Galen Bradford: Just like refrigeration. I mean, You know, two years ago, it was one of our number one questions of like, you guys have these beautiful ranges, the microwave drawer, where's the fridge. I want to do a full kitchen. And you know, it was kind of that thing of it will come out when we're confident that it is a beautiful, amazing piece of appliance to own. And

[:

[00:29:37] Galen Bradford: No, you would, you would almost think that the range would be your, your big thing that you're going to have, but you know, it's not like you can make a fantastic range if you really focus on the key parts of really, you know, your heating element, your circulation component and the way that you interface with the device and the consistency of those.

[:

[00:30:20] Eric Goranson: Mm.

[:

[00:30:45] Galen Bradford: My favorite thing is when I have someone who says, Hey, I'm doing a kitchen remodel. And they get C1 and then they get back to me and they're like, I love it. I love it. The hood works perfectly. I love cooking on this range. That is always the best feedback to me [00:31:00] because it's also someone I care about. And when it's someone close to me, I can't have their kitchen not be good.

[:

[00:31:07] Eric Goranson: Exactly. Because you're going to hear about it all the time, you know?

[:

[00:31:29] Galen Bradford: That's

[:

[00:31:54] Galen Bradford: Yeah.

[:

[00:32:13] Galen Bradford: We. Really invest back in our business and you know, for us, we, you know, we're going to now go to kind of the, the business side of what Z line looks at it is, you know, we're growing and we need to get product out to our customers and because of our drop ship model and because of our strong presence on.

[:

[00:32:52] Galen Bradford: Since 2020, our, uh, we've almost doubled our, our team here at the company. We've been just hiring and growing. [00:33:00] So it's been really exciting and it's not to take for granted what a challenge it's been for people throughout just what we've had to deal with, but we were well-prepared to just continue to succeed in a time that was incredibly challenging.

[:

[00:33:21] Eric Goranson: I w you, and I'd have to sit here and do a whole other show on defining what

[:

[00:33:26] Eric Goranson: I mean,

[:

[00:33:34] Eric Goranson: a number on it.

[:

[00:33:47] Galen Bradford: just feels this up for the next we're.

[:

[00:34:04] Eric Goranson: Yeah. And I also did, you know, uh, in my cause I did my kitchen and my bathroom kind of in that order. Uh, I also did your faucets, your bath faucets, and, uh, Kind of one of the bath collections, at least with the, uh, the hardware, as far as the, you know, the towel rods and the, in the

[:

[00:34:23] Eric Goranson: and that stuff.

[:

[00:34:50] Galen Bradford: I, we appreciate that praise so much, the, you know, the faucet, that's such an interesting thing, right? Because as you've experienced the price range on [00:35:00] those things, I mean, if someone's like, what can I pay for a faucet? I'd be like, how much do you have? Because you know, you can, you can pay a pretty penny for your, your fixtures.

[:

[00:35:30] Galen Bradford: And then, uh, you know, you hold it and you're like, this isn't full stainless. Like this isn't full metal construction. Like you could feel that it it's finished to. Like a solid metal fixture and it's not. And then it starts to get the gears turning on what's inside because a lot of us aren't going to open our faucet and take it apart.

[:

[00:36:13] Galen Bradford: So,

[:

[00:36:33] Eric Goranson: And plumbers like it's already toast.

[:

[00:36:38] Eric Goranson: I spent 600 bucks on him and he's like, yup, it's already toast. It was just, you know, the, the internals were pitting and I mean, she's in a condo projects, not like she's on this weird, well water or something like that. It just didn't last. And, uh, So she ordered another brand faucet went out there.

[:

[00:37:05] Galen Bradford: And you become, you become product support like that

[:

[00:37:09] Galen Bradford: all your fault, but you better fix it.

[:

[00:37:19] Eric Goranson: Of not helping that much on, because it's, it's a no win situation,

[:

[00:37:29] Eric Goranson: but, you know, and the other thing that I like too is as far as the accessories in the, in the towel bars and stuff, I mean, they're brass, they're solid and I've got the mat blocks. You know, you'd expect to see, you know, um, composites, plastics, things like that. Nope. It is a solid piece of metal.

[:

[00:38:05] Galen Bradford: Yeah. Couple months down the road and a few wet towels on it. It's just going to dislodge from the wall because it's cheap and falls apart. It's not just a nice coat on some inferior materials inside.

[:

[00:38:55] Eric Goranson: And you guys have a very turnkey approach. That if I would've known about [00:39:00] this, like 15 years ago, I would have just said, this is what we're doing to people, because it would have eliminated so many headaches at the job site.

[:

[00:39:08] Galen Bradford: we, we even have them set up in the office because, you know, we've, we've done a bunch of cool office remodel over the last two years. And it's like, you know, it's not that hard to install, whereas gosh, on a shower system, it's almost like opening the hood of a car, what what's behind that wall and what you need to rig to set it up can be all kinds of things.

[:

[00:39:41] Eric Goranson: Yeah. The hardest part, I think, uh, in this today with most brands, the hardest part is just ordering it and getting it correct.

[:

[00:39:51] Eric Goranson: trying to make these 32 boxes work. And did you pick up the right 32 boxes from the supplier, you know, and [00:40:00] oh, I need to trim kits still. And you know, and it's coming from all over the country.

[:

[00:40:12] Galen Bradford: that's a big thing we try to consider because it's interesting when you get into the world of installing appliances more frequently, um, even with a manual or what's included in the box, you know, one thing we got to judge judges, how many trips to home Depot or Lowe's should it take you to do this thing?

[:

[00:40:47] Galen Bradford: We can deliver something quality without having the run around and, you know, we've, we've looked at some beautiful, um, Showers from, you know, different competitors and different companies making it in the space. And it's [00:41:00] some of that stuff. I'm just like, did you go out of your way to try and make this as complex as possible?

[:

[00:41:06] Galen Bradford: Yeah.

[:

[00:41:32] Galen Bradford: Yeah. And then you're in the waiting game and different parts of the project are getting delayed in it. You know, again, we're just always thinking about the consumer's experience. You're not feeling good about your purchase. You're not feeling good about this dream you've been putting work into for your remodel when you hit the snacks of what's this thing that they don't sell, I need to order what, you know, what's this weird piece.

[:

[00:42:12] Galen Bradford: We're going to do breakfast on Sunday, or I can't wait for the holidays. The kids will be back in town and we're going to cook in this great kitchen together. That's what you should be focused on. That's what you should be focused on is enjoying that. And that's what we're focused on for you. We really want to think about it for you.

[:

[00:42:30] Eric Goranson: No kidding. So what else do you guys have any secrets that you can let out right now of a new products you might be coming in? Uh, next year?

[:

[00:42:58] Galen Bradford: Now those are assembled [00:43:00] in the U S too individually. So all of that like beautiful finishing touch and the inspection, all that hardware that's being put on by one of our teams here, you know, uh, and being shipped out to you hand, you know, hand finished, but, uh, we're, you're going to see you. Range hoods and, uh, dishwashers joined the autograph edition line.

[:

[00:43:37] Galen Bradford: Those are becoming really popular. So there's some new vessel sinks coming out and a bunch of new bath fixtures too. We've got, uh, coming here pretty soon. It'll probably be towards the very end of the year, if not the beginning of next year, our touchless faucets. Is also coming out. So it's got the infrared and the stem so that you can basically, you know, do all that awesome cooking.

[:

[00:44:03] Eric Goranson: Yeah.

[:

[00:44:23] Galen Bradford: They're really from 24 inches to 60 and all the standard sizes, just offering a complete Z line range experience as well.

[:

[00:44:38] Galen Bradford: No, you know, I, I just want to reiterate that, you know, Z line, whether it's a brand you've seen or a brand you haven't heard of. My biggest recommendation is to take, take a look into us, ask someone who's had it in their home and know that, you know, from our customer service too, when you experience and interact with us online, to being able to touch and feel the [00:45:00] product in your local retailer.

[:

[00:45:21] Galen Bradford: So.

[:

[00:45:36] Galen Bradford: Yeah.

[:

[00:45:44] Eric Goranson: Yeah, that was what the heated seats.

[:

[00:45:54] Eric Goranson: That's how it goes. And so that's the thing. And most people, uh, if you, if you guys don't know what we're talking about to [00:46:00] head over to Z line, kitchen.com, it's really that.

[:

[00:46:31] Eric Goranson: You got it. Now think about that folks. If you need to order appliances for Thanksgiving, you can do it here.

[:

[00:46:52] Eric Goranson: Alright, Galen, and thanks for coming on today, man. I appreciate it again.
