Short and Sweet: The Absurd Life of a Home Seller
Got a midweek update for you, and let me tell you, it's a doozy! We're diving into the chaotic world of prepping a house for sale, and spoiler alert: there's always one more thing to fix. Seriously, it's like a never-ending game of “What did I forget?” where the prize is a slightly less chaotic living space. I’m out here hustling before my photo team shows up, trying not to lose my mind over the million little details I missed. But hey, sometimes you just gotta throw your hands up and say, “That’s good enough!” So, join me as I share a few laughs, some not-so-zen moments, and the thrill of making my place look pretty for the big reveal. Get ready for some real talk about home improvement absurdities!
Buckle up, buttercup, because it’s midweek update time! Today, I’m out here in the trenches, prepping my house for sale, and let me tell you, it’s a wild ride. Photo shoot day is here, and I’ve been up before dawn, racing against the clock to make sure my house doesn’t look like a scene from a horror movie. The real kicker? You think you’re done until you realize there’s always one more thing you could fix or clean—like a bad sequel that just won’t quit. But enough is enough, right? I’ve finally decided today is the day I’m done chasing perfection. I mean, I’m not selling Buckingham Palace here, just a cozy little place that could use a little love.
On a brighter note, I just tackled an amazing backyard project with my buddies at System Pavers—two days of hard work, and bam! My outdoor space looks like it belongs on the cover of a magazine. I can’t wait to reveal the transformation; I’ll be posting the details on our Facebook page because everyone loves a good before-and-after story, right? Plus, there’s something satisfying about showing off a job well done.
Before I sign off, let’s chat about interest rates because, let’s be real, it’s the elephant in the room. Will it be a half-point drop, or are we stuck with a quarter-point? Fingers crossed we get some good news because we all want to save a few bucks when buying a home. Alright, I’ve got to run, the photo team is about to storm the castle, and I need to make sure my house doesn’t look like I’ve just survived a tornado. Thanks for tuning in, and don’t forget to catch our next full episode this Saturday!
Takeaways:
- Getting your house ready for sale involves endless little tasks that are oh-so-fun to tackle.
- It's amazing how easily we overlook things in our own homes, like a classic case of the forest and trees.
- Sometimes you just have to say, 'enough is enough' when prepping for that big sale day.
- If you're not selling a mansion, perfection isn't always necessary—good enough can totally work!

Speaker A:G. Is here to guide you through.
Speaker B:The latest tips, tricks and trends.
Speaker B:So grab your toolbox, put on your thinking cap, and let's get to work right here on around the House with.
Speaker A:Eric G. Welcome to the around the house show, the next generation of home improvement.
Speaker A:I'm Eric G. Thanks for joining me today.
Speaker A:Happy midweek special.
Speaker A:This is our midweek update that talks about the stuff that, well, didn't make it into last weekend's show and isn't gonna make it into this week's show.
Speaker A:And while I'm on location out here at my house that I'm putting on the market here tomorrow, it is photo shoot day.
Speaker A:So I've been working out here before sunup trying to get things done to the projects.
Speaker A:One thing I've learned about getting a house ready for sale is there's always one more little thing that you can do.
Speaker A:And finally, today is a thing where I go, nope, this is gonna be it.
Speaker A:And I tell you what, there's so many little things that you can chase around the house.
Speaker A:Of course, I've got the things that should pass inspection, anything that people are taking a look at when you get the offer and you get that stuff in.
Speaker A:And of course, the home inspector comes over.
Speaker A:So I try to make that as easy as possible.
Speaker A:And it's so funny.
Speaker A:The one thing I've noticed is when you're walking around your own house, there are so many things that you can overlook.
Speaker A:It's like you can't see the forest through the trees kind of thing.
Speaker A:And even I am guilty of that.
Speaker A:I was walking by and went, wow, I didn't get that knocked out the way I wanted to.
Speaker A:So I stop and get that done.
Speaker A:And really, once you get things upgraded to 100, then you'll look over and go, that's not 100.
Speaker A:But I could do one other little thing to that.
Speaker A:And at some point you just gotta say, enough.
Speaker A:And I know that's super tough, but you just gotta say, okay, that's it.
Speaker A:That's all I can do.
Speaker A:That's all we can do to get this thing wrapped up and we're good to go.
Speaker A:So when you're working on the projects, of course, make sure you get them dialed in perfectly and they're looking good.
Speaker A:And I tell you what, that will really make you not go crazy if you can say, that's good enough.
Speaker A:It's not like I'm selling a $7 million house here.
Speaker A:It's going to be beautiful.
Speaker A:It is beautiful.
Speaker A:And this last week we tackled a really cool project here in the backyard that was awesome with my friends over at System Pavers.
Speaker A:They came in here and did a knock down, drag them out.
Speaker A:Just beautiful job.
Speaker A:Two days, got the patio done.
Speaker A:Hauled out a ton of work.
Speaker A:And you want to see perfectionists, you'll have to watch.
Speaker A:I'll share some pictures up today once we get that knocked out, but I'm super happy with how those guys did the job.
Speaker A:I've got a job walkthrough later on today.
Speaker A:After that, I'll show you some pictures up here, hopefully on our around the House channel here on Facebook.
Speaker A:Just go Facebook around the House show and you can find it right there.
Speaker A:And it's actually just Facebook look around the House podcast.
Speaker A:You'll find it there.
Speaker A:And that's the easiest way to find that Facebook page.
Speaker A:And then of course, I got some new videos that'll be posted up here a little bit later this week.
Speaker A:Can't wait to show you.
Speaker A:And that is going to be a lot of fun.
Speaker A:We got some great new projects that I've been tackling.
Speaker A:I just got to get the time to edit them up and get them there.
Speaker A:And you know something with my team, we're almost there.
Speaker A:I had to get this project done so we could tackle some new stuff.
Speaker A:And we got some great new stuff coming up.
Speaker A:And we got a great show coming up this weekend.
Speaker A:No real big recalls that I saw here.
Speaker A:A couple little things, but really that was about it.
Speaker A:Nothing like we had last week with a bunch of different stuff.
Speaker A:But so there's nothing to report there.
Speaker A:And of course it is 7:25am Right now, Pacific Time here in the Pacific Northwest.
Speaker A:And of course, we're all waiting to see what happens with the interest rates.
Speaker A:Is that going to help us out?
Speaker A:Is it going to be quarter point?
Speaker A:Is it going to be a half a point?
Speaker A:I'm hoping half point odds are still leaning toward the quarter point, but I'd love to see half a point just to see if we can get those rates down for people to get out there and buy homes, save a little bit of money and put that away so they can save some money on those interest rates out there.
Speaker A:All right, everybody, have a great rest of the week.
Speaker A:I'm keeping this super short today because I got to get to work.
Speaker A:I have about an hour and a half.
Speaker A:I've got my photo team showing up here to do all the walkthrough stuff and I got to get some stuff going.
Speaker A:Thanks for tuning into around the House.
