[00:00:39] Caroline Blazovsky: it's starting to sound like a soap opera

[:

[00:00:52] Eric Goranson: Oh, we have had such a great, all the people that have reached out about the show we did on Saturday with Amber [00:01:00] Truckee and. Sledgehammer contractor that was out of control. And if you miss that guys go back and catch it. I mean, one of our, one of the people that called me and I won't even use their name, but they said it was, if there was ever a, a podcast review, we should submit it.

[:

[00:01:19] were

[:

[00:01:22] Eric Goranson: right?

[:

[00:01:46] Eric Goranson: I'm actually surprised I got you nailed down for this today because, uh, you've been just jamming.

[:

[00:01:56] Eric Goranson: Exactly everyone. You have been taking phone [00:02:00] calls all day long. Every time I call you and you're like, hold on, I'm on a call with a client or, Hey, I got to get some orders placed or you've been jammed because it's that time of year again in it.

[:

[00:02:11] Caroline Blazovsky: talk with you and Darren, I just had to listen in our weekly meeting.

[:

[00:02:18] Caroline Blazovsky: body is testing for mold. They either have mold from a flood mold from just must. I mean, all over Florida testing. Where else did I, uh, let's see, New York state testing, New Jersey testing. Where else did I test today?

[:

[00:02:45] Eric Goranson: Well, I'm looking at my 10 day forecast from today on my Portland weather and centered group. And that was showing what eight and a quarter inches of rain in the next 10 days.

[:

[00:02:59] Caroline Blazovsky: the [00:03:00] next week. I'll be shipping desk gets out the Erik for mold and

[:

[00:03:07] Caroline Blazovsky: Oh my God. You know what? I just thought of a great idea for indoor air quality month. Why don't we test your.

[:

[00:03:14] Eric Goranson: your home. Oh no.

[:

[00:03:25] Eric Goranson: Oh, snap. Well, at least I move the brake clean outside of the garage. So, I mean, that's a first step.

[:

[00:03:32] Caroline Blazovsky: We'll do mold and Allergan. Strictly mold.

[:

[00:03:51] Eric Goranson: Well, it's the indoor air quality once you and I were talking about. And speaking about that, I mean, this is the time of year where people going inside and those airborne [00:04:00] contaminants are a hot subject. Oh, oh. I mean just vapors dust, all the junk that's in our air.

[:

[00:04:14] Caroline Blazovsky: So all that debris is coming in. You've got particulate, smoke habits, smoke guys, running fireplaces now, out there. And we are every night. Yes. Yeah, I'm smelling the burn in.

[:

[00:04:47] Eric Goranson: It just does. I always have a dirtier house when I've had a wood fireplace because. That even though you don't really, you smell it, but when you smell. That's something that's in the air. That's going to fall out eventually, right. [00:05:00] A hundred

[:

[00:05:05] Caroline Blazovsky: They're making sure that, you know, they're not getting a chimney sweep. They're not making inspecting the chimney. So they've got, you know, all kinds of compromised liners and all of that seeps into your walls. And then you start to smell that, you know, when you ever walk into a house and you smell that wet fireplace smell, but nothing has been on that's like big indicator.

[:

[00:05:27] Eric Goranson: or in your life so bad and that's, and that's how you, that's how you burn your house down. When you get our good old rapper and fire going, you know, and all of a sudden you get a chimney fire because one, you didn't clean it. Or two, you've got a crack in that flu and that gets into the addict space or something.

[:

[00:05:59] Eric Goranson: And a

[:

[00:06:17] Caroline Blazovsky: So where you burned the wood, that enclosed area where that's actually the fireplace part. I don't know what that's actually called the official name, but, um, right. It's supposed to be cement. Well, what happens is they actually will put a wood platform under there when they're trying to be cheap. So when that heats up, you can actually burn through the plywood if it's like that.

[:

[00:06:44] Eric Goranson: that. Oh, I'm going to throw some shade on a Seattle radio show host up there. Cause I'm going to make fun of this one right here. I heard the advice of the home-improvement Seattle radio show host to put vinyl peel and stick tile on the [00:07:00] face of their fireplace.

[:

[00:07:07] Eric Goranson: I almost wrecked my freaking truck driving that day. I was like, oh, wait a minute. How are you gonna remove that? Oh, you take a heat gun. You're going, gonna put something that re that that is flammable. You're going to glue it over the top of the opening of the fireplace. So when it gets hot in the heat releases, the glue, it's going to drop down in front of the, on the hearth or in the front of it.

[:

[00:07:32] Caroline Blazovsky: hopefully if you use polyvinyl chloride, you'll really toxify yourself. PVC.

[:

[00:07:57] Eric Goranson: And I'm like, wow, good queue. [00:08:00] Good queue. Well, one of the things too, that, okay, so we got this stuff in our air, right? So for indoor air quality monitor, and we'll just kind of touch on this today, purifying your home. I mean, I know people that, like, my mom was a big plants person. You know, that seventies, we were talking about the seventies and all that.

[:

[00:08:26] Caroline Blazovsky: no, actually, no they've studies have shown that they used to say you used to a hundred, a hundred square feet. You'd put one plant like a philodendron or a spider plant. Or these, you know, I, uh, I think it was, um, there's an English, Ivy, those were supposed to remove formaldehyde and toxicity, but actually they proved it all wrong.

[:

[00:08:55] Eric Goranson: think of well, which could lead to mold and fungus and stuff, living in that. [00:09:00] Yeah, moreover than not more than taking it out. So your best,

[:

[00:09:12] Caroline Blazovsky: Get your filter, go to the highest grade filter on that HVAC that you can get that service, right? Make sure you're changing your filter at it. Getting your furnace running appropriately, making sure you're doing a tune-up check in. You're checking out your heat exchanger.

[:

[00:09:34] Eric Goranson: We make MIRVs sexy.

[:

[00:09:39] Eric Goranson: There we go.

[:

[00:10:10] Eric Goranson: That's

[:

[00:10:15] Eric Goranson: Yeah. There are buds. They, they put in my system in here and if they could get all the way up to New Jersey, we'd have him work on your house too.

[:

[00:10:24] Eric Goranson: guys. Come on out and get on the plane. The plane. I figured out, I already figured out how much it was going to.

[:

[00:10:37] Caroline Blazovsky: believe Eric showed me. There's a, uh, I won't say what it is, but there's a place in Portland that is giving away a classic cube box and I want it and you can

[:

[00:10:52] Caroline Blazovsky: But it's a classic place. It's like an iconic place and they have this really cool two bucks. So I said, Eric, if I win this, will you just put it in the truck and bring it to [00:11:00] New Jersey? Well,

[:

[00:11:18] Eric Goranson: So I was like, yeah, no, but Julie did say if we want it, that, uh, to go into our house, we'd have to sanitize it. I'll leave it at that.

[:

[00:11:40] Caroline Blazovsky: Humidity is going on right now, even though people think it's cooling off, those basements are getting cold, staying cold, and you're getting a lot of hot days. Like right now we're running 80, not quite

[:

[00:11:56] Eric Goranson: So I don't know exactly, but that's the thing though. [00:12:00] All that humidity is stacking up inside your house. And we'll talk about this at an on the Halloween show actually. Won't we

[:

[00:12:23] Caroline Blazovsky: Kroger. I say Krueger, I'm giving a hint about. It's crew

[:

[00:12:31] Caroline Blazovsky: and the giveaway. Tell them about way.

[:

[00:12:46] Caroline Blazovsky: It's a compact 70 and that's a commercial dehumidifier.

[:

[00:13:00] Eric Goranson: Yeah. So we'll start that on Halloween. So make sure on the day before Halloween on the 30th, to make sure that, uh, you're ready to sign up for that one, because that's when that next giveaway will be starting.

[:

[00:13:14] Caroline Blazovsky: $1,200 prize. I mean, we're talking

[:

[00:13:34] Caroline Blazovsky: Well, allergies mold is go, go on crazy. Right? You hear it in my voice, speak of cough.

[:

[00:13:40] Eric Goranson: go, no, this is just an indoor air quality month. And she gets.

[:

[00:13:50] Eric Goranson: So anyway. Yeah. I mean, allergy allergies are huge. I'm battling it. Um, I take allergy medicine. This is my, my month that I love the weather, but I hate [00:14:00] how I feel. And even with great allergy medicine, I have to struggle through it. But see,

[:

[00:14:11] Eric Goranson: You had a, you have an environment that is jam packed full of right now.

[:

[00:14:18] Eric Goranson: be. Yeah. All that flooding plus the fall, the molds, the mildews fungus, everything else. I mean all that, think about all that subway washed into New Jersey. Right? So anything that was in the subway is now in New Jersey. So that can't be healthy.

[:

[00:14:46] Caroline Blazovsky: There's some great stuff out there. And especially now we got COVID. Can we throw COVID in with allergies? Cause that's, you know, dealing with viruses now we're going closed up cold virus flu.

[:

[00:15:03] Caroline Blazovsky: you have the

[:

[00:15:08] Eric Goranson: No, it's

[:

[00:15:25] Caroline Blazovsky: So, yeah,

[:

[00:15:34] Eric Goranson: consider what I've done to myself over the years. Hydroxyls is a good part of the

[:

[00:15:44] Eric Goranson: Pickle yourself, your new indoor, that's your new indoor air quality book whiskey. And hydroxyls that's awesome. Okay. Water testing real quick because so many people out there buying homes, um, I mean, I'm on a municipal water system.

[:

[00:16:02] Caroline Blazovsky: no, you don't. Let's test your water. We're going to test Eric's house. That's it. Let's test your water. We're going to test for mold allergens and we'll see what he's got going on. Mm. Yeah, no water testing. Every three years for water testing is a must.

[:

[00:16:18] Eric Goranson: I have never tested the water in my house.

[:

[00:16:34] Caroline Blazovsky: God. We're getting.

[:

[00:16:44] Caroline Blazovsky: Some led some copper, maybe some, I don't know. You got some, well, you don't out there. They don't really use chlorination, so you don't get chlorination by-product which is nice, but that's what, that is an anomaly. Okay. Folks, everybody, if you're using chlorination, you've got chlorination by-product [00:17:00] which means you need to test, know your levels.

[:

[00:17:06] Eric Goranson: our water system is new enough here that we don't have to worry about lad, so that shouldn't be in anywhere, um, should be something that's pretty good. Uh, but yeah, I'm curious to see what the rest of it is, you know, it's, uh, coming out of a city. Well, so I'm curious to see, it

[:

[00:17:23] Caroline Blazovsky: Do you have any manufacturing facilities around?

[:

[00:17:52] Eric Goranson: So, and then they would, uh, they had a big, huge furnace. Now that's a city park. And, uh, I mean that hasn't ran for probably [00:18:00] 80 years to 100 years, but, uh, that's on the other side of the lake for me, but yeah, still interesting stuff. Yeah. You might have

[:

[00:18:15] Caroline Blazovsky: Let's check it out. It's always surprising. Like I test water and it's always like a surprise. You never know what you're gonna find out.

[:

[00:18:37] Eric Goranson: Once you've come up

[:

[00:18:42] Eric Goranson: That's awesome. I'm going to drop some tunes. My name's P five.

[:

[00:19:03] Eric Goranson: many people to get lined up. We

[:

[00:19:07] Eric Goranson: talk. Like we're almost booked up till end of the year, if we get everybody in a schedule here.

[:

[00:19:33] Caroline Blazovsky: Oh my God. That's right. It's the booze show you guys have to tune in. It's all about whiskey and scotch.

[:

[00:19:58] Eric Goranson: That's a great, great show. [00:20:00] I'm really happy how that turned out. I think we've got some great stuff ahead here with, uh, with, uh, some guests coming up, including. You know, uh, we've got some, the other thing is the next hour, you know, the hour before that coming into it, we start talking about things that can go wrong inside your house.

[:

[00:20:36] Eric Goranson: We're done talking for the day. We've hit the 20 minute mark, which means it's time to wrap it up. I'm Eric G and I'm Caroline B and you've been listening to. Around the house.[00:21:00]
